History of F.K. "Željeznicara"
The first football ball that rolled in Bosnia and Herzegovina was brought into the country in 1903, however the sport reached Sarajevo only in 1908. The first registered (and founded) football/soccer club was the high school club of Sarajevo Gymnasium. The club was named Osman. Osman’s founders were: Emil Najlus, Feodor Lukac, Stevo Jankovic i Zdravko Jeftanovic.
After founding the first team several clubs were formed as well: Slavia, SASK and SK. Since all three of them were formed as exclusive clubs for particular nationalities the Railroad workers resisted this separation and a first multi-ethic workers sports club was founded in 1912. It was named Sarajevo-Hajduk.
Dimitrije Dimitrijevic, a railroad worker had an idea that yet another club should be formed and his actions turned fruitful and a club by the name Željeznicar was formed. The very first game was played against SASK on 9/17 at 4PM. The game had 500 spectators and SASK won 5:1.
During the very first competing season Željo played in the second league of the Sarajevo federation and it shared the group with: Troja, Šparta, Barakohba (the first official win Željo had against Barakohbe - 7:0.
